I wanted her in my bed.

Why lie? That was it. I didn’t want her on the couch; I wanted her here, under me, moaning my name while those golden eyes squeezed shut in a wave of ecstasy so overwhelming she lost time. But none of that extra shit was a good idea for her, and probably wouldn’t be for a long while; maybe a decent night’s rest was the nicest thing I could do for her. I was a man who understood deprivation pretty well, and it wouldn’t cost me anything in the long run to let this play out as a good deed and nothing more. I didn’t do attachments, so there was no way I needed to get wrapped up in her any more than I already had.
